We receive Abundant Life Through the Word of God – Part 1

Jesus has made abundant life available to us and we receive that life through the Word of God (John 10:10; John 6:63). In fact, Jesus is the living Word of God (John 1:1, 14; Revelation 19:13). Jesus only did what He saw His Father do and only said what He heard His Father say (John 5:19, 8:28). When you see Jesus in the Word, you experience His life. The Bible stories, prophecies, parables and Old Testament feasts are a type and shadow of things to come and point to Jesus. He can be seen in every book of the Bible (John 5:39, 46).
The Word of God or the Bible is the life of which Jesus speaks in John 6:63; the very life of God Himself and it is released in you. That’s because the Word is like a seed. It carries within it the power to fulfill itself and it goes forth and returns to God having done what He sent it to do (Isaiah 55:10, 11). God’s Word is proven (Psalm 18:30; 1Kings 8:56). It never fails. When you plant the Word about healing, provision or whatever you need in your heart, believe, confess and act on it, that Word will release God’s power in you to affect that circumstance (Matthew 13:3 – 9; 18 – 23).
The Bible or Word of God is God’s Word to us so that we can know Him and understand what His will is because His Word is His will. The Bible reveals the relationship God has with mankind and His plan to redeem mankind back to Himself through Jesus Christ. It shows us how to have a relationship with God and others. It is the voice of God communicating with us about who He is, what He has done and what He will do for us.

It is more than just good information or a history book. It is supernatural; God breathed, eternal, infallible, alive and powerful, light, wisdom, health to your flesh and releases heaven on earth. It has life in it! (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; Psalm 119:89; Numbers 23:19; Romans 3:4; Hebrews 4:12; Psalm 119;105, 130; Psalm 119:98; Proverbs 4:20-22; Matthew 16:19; 18:18). Because the Bible is a supernatural or spiritual book written by a Spiritual being, to spiritual beings, it can only be seen or understood through spiritual eyes after salvation. It is our spirit that is born again with the Spirit of God. The natural man can’t understand the Bible and it is foolishness to him because it is spiritually discerned (1 Corinthians 2:13, 14).

Even though the Bible has 66 books, it was written by as many as 40 different authors, from different walks of life, who lived in different locations and it was written at different times over some span of 1600 years, there is continuity in it. It is divinely inspired by God through the Holy Spirit who moved on the writers and who put the books in the order that we have it today. (2 Peter 1:20,21).

God takes His Word seriously (Psalm 138:2)! How do you measure the Word?
1) Approach the Bible believing – if He said it then decide to believe it. Make it a priority and the final authority in your life! The Holy Spirit reveals to us who God is. When we study and meditate on (think about and mull it over) the Word of God, we see who God is, how big He is and then we can believe Him and take Him at His Word! (Mark 4:24, 25; Romans 10:17).
2) Decide to obey His Word. (Luke 6:46-49).
3) It is truth. (John 17:17; John 8:31,32). Truth isn’t relative or subjective. Truth is absolute, and God’s truth is eternal (Psalm 119:89; Isaiah 40:8; Matthew 24:35; 1 Peter 1:23). Truth goes beyond facts. Because truth doesn’t change, facts are subject to truth. It has the power to set us free and change our circumstances.
For the Word of God to be successful in your life, you first need to have a relationship with Him through Jesus, so you can hear His Words (John 8:47; 10:27; 1 Corinthians 2:14). Then there are 3 things you need to do according to Joshua 1:8: 1) speak the Word, 2) meditate on the Word, and 3) obey or act on the Word. Remember to ask the Holy Spirit to bring revelation to what you are reading, and to show you how to apply it to your life.

Don’t just read it as a novel or as a story or for good information. There is power and authority in the Word of God. God’s Word is the foundation for freedom and success because it contains God’s instructions to us, His promises for us to stand on, the solution to every problem man has and wisdom to find the answers.
You could choose to just read this blog and see that it has some good information in it. Or you can decide to see what the Word says by looking up the references mentioned. Your response to the Word of God is important otherwise, it doesn’t benefit you. Believing the Word is what releases the blessing (John 20:29). Make room for God’s presence in your life through His Word. Mediating on the Word of God is one of the Keys to Living the Abundant Life!
Stayed tuned for Part 2 next week- recommendations on how to study and meditate on the Word.

Abundant Blessings!
