Rosh Hashanah is a joyous celebration on the Hebrew calendar, reflecting on what God has done and hoping for a triumphant new year. The Hebrew calendar moves forward on the first day of Tishrei (the seventh month), also known as Rosh Hashanah, which begins on Wednesday at sundown on October 2, 2024, through sunset on Thursday, October 3, 2024 (Leviticus 23:23–25). Rosh Hashanah translates from Hebrew to “the head of the year” and marks the start of the Jewish New Year and the High Holy Days that follow, i.e., the 10 Days of Awe of reflection and repentance leading to Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement (October 12, 2024).
The Feast of Trumpets also begins on Rosh Hashanah, which lasts for two days and is one of the holy days the Israelites were to keep. God revealed to Moses the exact time and how the people should celebrate because the feasts are parties. During the feast, the people would bring various offerings to the Lord (Numbers 29:1–6).
All the Old Testament feasts in the Bible point to Christ Jesus since Jesus is the Word made flesh (John 1:14). He is not just in the New Testament but seen throughout the Bible. These feasts are significant for Christians so we can celebrate them too (Romans 11:11-36; Colossians 2:16–17). The shofar blowing during this feast represents making Jesus King and announcing His return (1 Thessalonians 4:16–17; Revelation 11:15). It calls us to awaken to the battle and signals victory. Jesus is preparing, equipping, and refining us.
God speaks prophetically from the calendar. We are to be in sync with God’s times and seasons (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; Genesis 8:22; 1 Chronicles 12:32). We can see from the Bible that numbers are important to Him. Numbers don’t define or dictate, and there isn’t any power in numbers, but they glorify God. They are prophetic or predictive markers, have layers of revelations, and have both a redeeming and non-redeeming version. They show us where we are to look and see Jesus. Prophecy is not to scare us but to prepare us. Let us hear what the Holy Spirit is saying!
The Hebrew alphabet has 22 letters. Any Hebrew letter has three different values: 1) a phonic sound, 2) a numerical value, and 3) a prophetic picture or sign. Let’s look at what 5785 means.
5 = Heh (Hei); look or be watchful (in Scripture, it refers to God’s grace); picture–eye
7 = Zayin; crown; (in Scripture, the number seven relates to completion or perfection; manifest presence); picture – plow (takes action in the harvest; don’t look back – Luke 9:62)
8 = Chet; life (in Scripture refers to new beginnings); picture – fence or wall; (separate; different (Holy))
5 = Heh (Hei); look or be watchful (in Scripture, it refers to God’s grace); picture–eye
First, we see the number 5 twice. The number 5 represents God’s grace; this year, there is a double portion! God’s grace means the unearned, unmerited favor of God and His enabling power to carry out what we could not do for ourselves. He gives His grace freely to everyone, and we can receive His grace in every area of our lives. God gives us His grace for every time and season because the cross of Jesus Christ guarantees victory no matter the time or season. Jesus has already defeated the enemy (Colossians 2:14-15)!
And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. Titus 2:11 – 13
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8 – 9
The number 7 represents a crown. In Proverbs, we see wisdom will place an ornament of grace on our head and deliver a crown of glory (Proverbs 4:9). We must ask the Lord for wisdom in every situation, circumstance, and assignment in our lives. Jesus has become wisdom for us, and when we ask God for wisdom, He gives it freely (1 Corinthians 1:30; James 1: 5–6).
Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:1–3
In Scripture, the number 7 relates to perfection. Jesus made us perfect in God’s eyes when He died for our sins on the cross (Hebrews 10:14). However, as we behold Jesus and His glory, we are continually being transformed into His image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord (Romans 8:29; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 4:13; Colossians 3:8–10).
It also means to plow or take action in the harvest. This age belongs to us, the church. God handpicked us to be in this generation (Esther 4:14). We are not to be afraid but courageous. We must go out full of faith and speak boldly, walking in the fear of the LORD. The world needs to hear our voices. God is preparing the harvest and pouring out His Spirit for hearts to receive Him (Joel 2:28).
Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest, to send out laborers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37–38
The number 8 in Scripture refers to new beginnings. We can see that the Lord brings a new beginning with each new season. In the fall, we see the colors of the leaves change, and harvest comes. The Lord gives us a fresh start.
“Do not remember the former things nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. Now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it? I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18–19
Let’s put this all together. God has given us a double portion of His grace for this season. Our focus should not be on the activities of the kingdom of darkness but on promoting the kingdom of God and His truth and light. We must prepare ourselves because the enemy’s intent and key strategy in these last days is to cause us to leave or deny our faith in Christ. We must hold onto our faith and carry out God’s divine assignments. His church is a restraining power on the earth, and God needs all of us to take our place to thwart and restrain the enemy’s power and bring people out of darkness.
These are exciting times. God is doing a new thing in our lives and the world! We will see a billion-soul harvest, and revival is beginning to sweep the globe. We do not need to fear what we may see shaken or happening in the world because Jesus has said He would never leave or forsake us and that He would be with us even till the end of the age (Matthew 28:20). As we keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, we receive His peace, joy, and everything He is and has (Hebrews 12:2; John 16:33).
I hear the Lord saying this is a harvest season for you and your families. You will see prodigal sons and daughters coming home, salvations, and reconciliation among family members. In every place where you have sowed into the kingdom of God, you will reap a harvest this year (e.g. finances, family, businesses, ministries, etc.). Jesus is your provider and protector. The enemy has come to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to bring life and that more abundantly.
Keep your mind focused on the things above, and look for God’s blessings to flow into your life daily. Because He is doing something new, they may come from unexpected sources and places.
The world needs to see Jesus through you this year. Set the atmosphere in your home, work, and relationships with the prayers, prophecies, and decrees you speak. We need to hear the voice of the Lord and declare the Word of the Lord! We are preparing the way for the Lord Jesus to return. Be set apart as a Holy habitation unto Him! Bring an offering to Him, tell Him how much you love Him, and thank Him for His goodness.
God is at work on the earth today, and we are to partner with Him and release His glory on the earth! I release now the Spirit of revelation, joy, and peace in the Holy Spirit. Go forth and release His kingdom and glory everywhere you go!
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10
