The Courts of Heaven – Part One

The Courts of Heaven is a place in the spirit realm, not a new or novel formula to pray and get our prayers answered. Nevertheless, it is a dimension of the spirit that we can step into by faith. Operating in the Courts of Heaven is not the only way to pray and approach God. In the book of Luke, we see three dimensions of prayer that Jesus revealed, i.e., approaching God as Father, Friend, and Judge. How we see God and what we need determines how we pray to Him. Let’s take a moment to look at these three dimensions of prayer.

Approaching God as Father

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” So He said to them, “When you pray, say: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven.” Luke 11:1–2

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:15

Jesus teaches us to approach God as our Father. He came to represent the Father and has all authority to function in this capacity (Matthew 3:16–17; 28:18; Hebrews 1:3; John 5:19; 10:30; 14:9; Colossians 2:9). So, whenever you want to know what the Father is like, look at Jesus. Our Heavenly Father loves and accepts us (1 John 3:1–2; Romans 8:38–39).

Approaching God as Friend

And He said to them, “Which of you shall have a friend, and go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has come to me on his journey, and I have nothing to set before him;’ and he will answer from within and say, ‘Do not trouble me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give to you?’ “I say to you, though he will not rise and give to him because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will rise and give him as many as he needs.” Luke 11:5–8

“No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.” John 15:15

We see in Scripture that Abraham was called the friend of God, and he approached Him in this manner when he interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah and his nephew Lot and his family that lived there (Genesis 18:21–33; Isaiah 41:8; James 2:23). The LORD also spoke to Moses face to face as a man speaks to his friend.

Moses also approached God as his Friend to intercede for God’s people. (Exodus 33:11; Numbers 14:13–16). Both interacted with God and petitioned the Lord based on God’s reputation and who He is.

As a Friend, God will share secrets about what He is saying and doing to empower our prayer life. There is power in being a friend of God.

Approaching God as Judge

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying: “There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ “And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.'” Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the Earth?” Luke 18:1–8

Jesus put prayer in the judicial system. He wasn’t sharing this parable to show God is an unjust judge, but even as the widow, through persistence, received a verdict from the unjust judge, how much more can we receive a just decision from the Judge of all the Earth?

When our prayers that agree with God’s Word remain unanswered, there may be an adversary, which in Greek is “antidikos,” or one who brings a lawsuit to defend with a legal case against us in the spirit realm that causes resistance, hindrance, or delay. Our adversary Satan is a legal opponent (1 Peter 5:8). When Jesus died, He paid for our legal rights, but Satan will look to see how he can devour us to deny what is legally and rightfully ours.

Whenever we walk in this third dimension of prayer, we can answer every accusation against us that the enemy would use to keep us from a complete breakthrough in our lives.

God takes pleasure in providing justice (Jeremiah 9:23–24; Psalm 82:1–4). Jesus established justice for all humanity through the cross. As a result, people are either in Adam under judgment and condemnation because of sin or are in Jesus under righteousness, grace, and life (Romans 5:12–21; Colossians 2:13–15).

When we receive Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we enter into the ruling given in our favor from the Court of Heaven at the cross. The favor of this ruling includes forgiveness of all sins, past, present, and future, healing for our spirit, soul, and body, complete provision, protection from evil spirits and demonic influences, etc.

When Jesus died on the cross, He made a trade. He took our sin and gave us His righteousness (2 Corinthians 5:21). He also took our diseases and pain and gave us His health (Isaiah 53:4). He became poor for us so we could be rich (2 Corinthians 8:9). Mount Zion is where the Courts of Heaven operate in the spiritual activity of trading. Jesus made the trade, and we stepped into it by faith to receive the benefits of the trade (Isaiah 61:3).

Furthermore, this ruling gives us the power and authority to act on behalf of the government of Heaven as ambassadors. Therefore, we can access heaven, heavenly places, heavenly realities, etc.

*****

God is the Judge of all and renders decisions concerning us that are fair and equal (Hebrews 12:23; Romans 2:9–11). He wants us to step into His judicial system and petition the Courts to see our prayers answered and receive decisions resulting in breakthroughs!

So we will lose whenever we don’t go to Court. However, when we go into Heaven’s Courts, we will win every time because of what Jesus has done and won for us!

When we go before the Lord to petition for justice for ourselves and others, our families, cities, and nations, we must withdraw any judgments we have made before presenting our case. I will talk more about this in the next blog, part two of the Courts of Heaven. You can also watch my message on Withdrawing Judgments in the Courts of Heaven on my YouTube channel or on the Facebook page of Genesis Upper Room Church, their YouTube channel, or their website encountergenesis.com.

Before spiritual warfare

Most Christians have a warfare mentality when dealing with the conflict of the enemy. Jesus judges first (He judicially takes care of the legal first), then goes and makes war. We must follow what Jesus did to go to the battlefield and win. Then we can exercise the authority Jesus has given us, and we will win every time! Therefore, when we go into the Courts of Heaven first to get a verdict before going to war on the battlefield, we receive more answered prayers and less backlash from the enemy.

I recommend further reading on this subject through a book on my reference list titled How To Do Spiritual Warfare the Right Way by Greg Kurjata.

Receiving healing from the Courts of Heaven

Healing is part of God’s redemptive plan and the New Covenant. Healing is our legal right because of what Jesus accomplished through the finished work on the cross. Jesus calls healing the children’s bread a covenant right of those who belong to God (Matthew 15:21–28).

Jesus’ ministry on earth announced the expressed will of God in action because Jesus came to show us God, the Father (John 5:19; Acts 10:38). God never changes. (Malachi 3:6). Jesus still heals today because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). So, if we want to know what God’s will is for us today, we can read His will, which the Bible or the Word of God reveals.

Sometimes the healing we have prayed for has not manifested in our lives because we have not dealt with any sin, transgression, or iniquity that our adversary is using against us that allows sickness and disease to attack us (1 Peter 5:8).

Sin and trauma cause soul wounds which can affect the healing we need physically, mentally, emotionally, relationally, financially, etc. We must deal with these soul wounds and kick out any demonic forces at work so healing can manifest. [1]

Therefore, if there is legal ground the enemy is working from, we must get it revoked and removed to obtain and retain our healing. We must annul covenants and agreements made with the demonic realm. We must know what the devil uses to build cases against us and deny our healing. The Holy Spirit can help us discern his case against us as we seek to understand what hinders our healing.

When you have idols in your life, demon spirits have the legal right to attack you. Idols exposed and removed are the key to lasting victory and complete freedom.

When we have a revelation of our sin and the iniquities in our bloodline connected to idolatry and erecting evil altars, we can come before the court to face all charges and prosecute all idols and evil altars controlling our lives and bloodline.

We also seek deliverance and healing from any soul wounds that have caused us to break God’s first commandment.  We enter a guilty plea and must humbly repent of all the charges leveled against us so that we can overcome the enemy through the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony (Matthew 5:25; Revelation 12:11).

God wants to rule on our behalf and acquit us of all charges of idolatry, but we must provide Him with evidence. That evidence is what Jesus Christ has already done for us through His blood, sacrifice, and the power of God’s grace. Therefore, when we state our case, we will always win!

We invite the Holy Spirit to search our souls (mind, will, and emotions), judge every idol and the evil altar, and heal our souls.

At Genesis Upper Room Church on May 21, 2023, my message was on Cleansing Your Temple from Idols. We discussed prosecuting idols and evil altars from our lives and bloodlines in the Courts of Heaven. Please refer to this video on their Facebook page, YouTube channel, or website at encountergenesis.com or my YouTube channel for a more in-depth discussion of dealing with sin or iniquity in our bloodlines that gives demons the right to bring curses, sickness, tragedies, etc., into our lives.

I recommend Robert Henderson’s book Receiving Healing from the Courts of Heaven Removing Hindrances that Delay or Deny Healing for follow-up since time doesn’t allow a more thorough discussion.

Accessing what God has for us

It is always best to repent before we go into the Courts of Heaven to get our hearts right so that when we ask, we can expect a good verdict or result (1 John 1:7, 9).

When we go into the Courts of Heaven, we can put God in remembrance of His Word (Isaiah 43:26). We can declare God’s promises and prophetic words spoken over us, asking for favor with God and man, doors to open, His glory to manifest, etc.

Purpose of the Court

As we come to the Courts of Heaven and stand before God as our Righteous Judge, we can bring our petitions for divine judgments and obtain a verdict of justice rendered on our behalf, as well as our families, cities, and nations. We can also ask God for justice for the enemy to restore seven times what he stole (Proverbs 6:31).

The Lord calls us to Court:

Put Me in remembrance [remind Me of your merits]; let us plead and argue together. Set forth your case, that you may be justified (proved right). Isaiah 43:26 AMPC

Remember, we don’t come on our own merits, but because of God’s grace and the blood of Jesus that removed our sins so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. (2 Corinthians 5:21). We come with humility and honor. We are proven right based on the finished work of Jesus. Therefore, all believers are worthy of stepping into the Courts of Heaven.

What Scripture reveals about the Courts of Heaven

Wherever you see a throne in the Bible, it is an elevated seat with a court and a judge sitting on the throne to rule and establish justice. The one sitting on the throne gives meaning to it. So, the function of a judge is to discern or understand the truth and then execute justice (2 Chronicles 20:12; 1 Kings 3:9–12). The people connected to the throne are under the influence and jurisdiction of it.

The term Courts of Heaven doesn’t appear in Scripture, but we can see the evidence of courts in session and judgments rendered. In the Old Testament, courts almost exclusively refer to the temple God inhabited. Today we may refer to the Courts of Heaven as the spiritual realm where God presides as Judge.

In the book of Judges, we see a pattern of judging and then going to war. Various judges and prophets in the Old Testament would sit as judges and bring the rulings of God to deliver nations (Gideon, Othneil, Deborah, etc.).

The Courts of Heaven, which exist in the unseen heavenly realm, have different settings and functions. From Genesis to Revelation, we can see different courts in action. Let’s look at the first evidence God collected and the judgment and verdict God gave from the Courts of Heaven. We see God obtained evidence from Adam and Eve but not the serpent before He rendered His judgment and verdict.

Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.” And the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.” Genesis 3:9–13

So the LORD God said to the serpent: “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field; on your belly you shall go, and you shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.” To the woman He said: “I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in pain you shall bring forth children; your desire shall be for your husband, and he shall rule over you.” Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; in toil you shall eat of it all the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, and you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:14–19

Court Scenes

Daniel 7:9–10 describes a fiery court, and the One sitting on the throne is the Ancient of Days:

“I watched till thrones were put in place, and the Ancient of Days was seated; His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool. His throne was a fiery flame, its wheels a burning fire; a fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him. A thousand thousands ministered to Him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him. The court was seated, and the books were opened.” Daniel 7:9–10

As we come before this Court, we join in worship with those in heaven. Worship creates the atmosphere the Courts of Heaven operate from (Revelation 5:8–14). True worship originates in heaven and then touches the Earth.

The books were opened:

We have a book in Heaven that concerns us and our destinies; God’s plans and purposes for us that He wrote before we even existed (Psalm 139:13–16). So when we pray and intercede, we must prophetically discern what is in these books in heaven to align with them. God has other books in Heaven, i.e., about nations’ destinies, the purposes of God, the Book of Remembrance mentioned in Malachi 3:16, and the Lamb’s Book of Life (Luke 10:20; Revelation 21:27).

We come before God as Judge in this Court to present God’s purposes through us. We don’t petition this Court based on our needs. We petition God as Father and Friend for that.

We can also read about the Court of the Purposes of God in Ezekiel 1:26–27 and Isaiah 6:1–8, including equipping and commissioning.

Court of Petition

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 NIV

We already operate in the Courts of Heaven when we bring our prayers and petitions to the Lord.

Defendant’s Court or Throne of Grace.

Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16

The Defendant’s Court or Throne of Grace is where we can come to deal with personal issues of our lives and defend accusations and defeat Satan, or the adversary, legally (Zechariah 3:1–7; Job 1:6–12; 2:1–6; Isaiah 14:12–15; Revelation 12:9–10).

“No weapon made will prevail against you. In Court you will refute every accusation. The servants of ADONAI inherit all this; the reward for their righteousness is from me,” says ADONAI. Isaiah 54:17 CJB

Satan, our adversary and the accuser of the brethren, builds a file in the Courts of Heaven with evidence against our loved ones and us (Revelation 12:10). Then we must defend against the lawsuit.

When the accusation is accurate, we are to quickly agree with our adversary according to Matthew 5:25. When we repent; the evidence gets removed from our file (1 John 1:9).

Also, when fraudulent judgments are spoken against us, we can refute (prove to be wrong, false, or erroneous) every accusing word spoken against us in the Courts of Heaven.

Everything we receive from God comes by grace through faith. Therefore, we step in by grace through faith to present our case by petitioning the Courts of Heaven to move on our behalf to bring deliverance to us and our circumstances.

Getting free involves getting our souls healed and taking these demons to court. Therefore, it is essential to get our souls healed so that we have nothing in common with them to take them to the Courts of Heaven.

In her YouTube teaching Defeating the spirit of Legion, Katie Souza takes the strongman over the demons (Assyrian King; Isaiah 10:1–5) to the Ancient of Days court first so he is bound and his house can be demolished (Matthew 12:29). Then, after she gets a restraining order against the strongman, she goes to the Grace Court. Again, the power of God’s grace enables us to overcome the devil’s indictments.

Supreme Court of Heaven, which deals with God’s ultimate plans and purposes for the Earth:

After these things, I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven. And the first voice which I heard was like a trumpet speaking with me, saying, “Come up here, and I will show you things which must take place after this.” Immediately I was in the Spirit; and behold, a throne set in heaven, and One sat on the throne. And He who sat there was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance and there was a rainbow around the throne, in appearance like an emerald. Around the throne were twenty-four thrones and on the thrones I saw twenty-four elders sitting, clothed in white robes; and they had crowns of gold on their heads. And from the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings, and voices. Seven lamps of fire were burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Before the throne, there was a sea of glass, like crystal. And in the midst of the throne, and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second living creature like a calf, the third living creature had a face like a man, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying: “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:” You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.” Revelation 4:1–11

Earthly courts function similarly to the Courts of Heaven because they are patterned after them. Therefore, to operate in the Supreme Court of Heaven, you must be given that authority just as only certain lawyers can present cases before the Supreme Court on Earth.

We see the path of a ruling in Revelation 5:1–10 and Revelation 6:1–2. Jesus takes the scroll out of the right hand of the One sitting on the throne and breaks the seal. He functions at the right hand of God and executes the ruling of the Supreme Court of Heaven. Then angels and heavenly beings carry out the will of God by completing the execution of the rulings.

We also see the Messiah’s Court of Judgment (2 Corinthians 5:9–11a; 1 Corinthians 4:3–5; Matthew 12:36) and the Great White Throne of Judgment (Revelation 20:11–15), which occur after the end of time.

Accessing the Courts of Heaven

Who has access to the Courts of Heaven?

The Courts of Heaven are for our use as believers which gives us access to God, the Righteous and Sovereign Judge, through prayer, petition, and intercession with the help of the Holy Spirit.

But the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name [in My place, to represent Me and to act on My behalf], He will teach you all things. And He will cause you to recall (will remind you of, bring to your remembrance), everything I have told you. John 14:26 AMPC

How do we access the Courts of Heaven?

We can step into this dimension of the Spirit and access the Courts of Heaven by faith because of the finished work of the cross, the blood of Jesus, His resurrection and ascension into Heaven, and God’s grace.

Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and having a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19–22

Jesus made a pathway for us when He ascended to heaven in His glorified physical body. He gave us a new and living way to come before Him and His presence. When we are born again, we come to life in the spirit realm granting us access to the heavenly dimension (John 3:13).

During the earthly ministry of Jesus, He saw in the spirit realm and agreed with it from the natural (John 5:19). We are to do this as well because we are seated together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). It is because of what Jesus accomplished and the empowerment of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us that enables us to live in heavenly realms while living on the earth (John 14:16–20). We must understand that we have been granted access to function in heaven’s courts.

Operating and Functioning in the Courts

Operating in the Courts of Heaven is not about us but about Him. It is about establishing what God wants to see established in the Earth. God establishes His government through the Courts of Heaven. He is the King, and the government operates around His throne, i.e., seven spirits around the throne, trading floors, courts, etc.

God is a lawgiver, Judge, and King (Isaiah 33:22). There are three branches of God’s government, like in the United States of America,i.e., the executive, judicial, and legislative branches. God is a government within Himself, and Jesus is part of it at His right hand.

God wants us to take our seat in Christ in the heavenly realms as sons of God, where Christ sits at the Father’s right hand (Romans 8:14, 19; Ephesians 2:6; Hebrews 1:3). We are to rule and reign with Him. So, God wants us to step up to these higher realms to change things on Earth.

Sitting at the right hand of the Father is a function. In the Bible, we see that the right hand refers to the hand of strength, authority, and Blessing (Exodus 15:6; Revelation 5:1; Genesis 48:14). Sitting at the right hand of God means that Jesus shares these things with Him, and it is the highest place and honor possible (1 Peter 3:22). There are not two separate thrones on which the Father and Jesus each sit (Revelation 5).

The main thing to understand when operating and functioning in the Courts of Heaven is learning how to flow with the Spirit and understanding it is about relationship, intimacy, and maturity. Galatians 5:16–25 tells us that a mature believer walks by the Spirit. It isn’t so much about learning a protocol or procedure; it is just flowing with the Spirit and learning how to follow His lead.

Everything we see, hear and encounter matters in the heavenly court because all have meaning and function. So it’s okay to ask what the function is of what you see (Daniel 7:16). The Holy Spirit will also lead us and help us present our case and what to say.

We don’t have to have a seer gift because we can see in the heavenly realms with the eyes of our hearts or spirit (Ephesians 1:17–18; Revelation 3:18). God wants us all to see through the seer anointing.

In her book Seer Activations, Jennifer LeClaire reminds us that when we are born again, our eyes are legally opened to God’s kingdom again. Remember what we read in Genesis 3 about how the serpent spoke to Eve; she looked at the fruit and ate, then Adam ate. Both of their eyes were opened, and they knew they were naked. The enemy had tempted them into entering seer dimensions illegally. They were deceived because their spiritual eyes were already opened.

There has been a battle over mankind’s eyes, which is why the god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.

Our God sees (Genesis 16:13). We were created in the image of our Heavenly Father; therefore, we are a seeing spirit. The seer anointing allows us to see the Lord and into the spirit realm.

The Holy Spirit dwells within us and influences our spirit, soul, and body. God uses our thoughts, ideas, and imagination (images) to communicate His thoughts. Our imagination is sanctified and brought into the kingdom as believers because we are in the kingdom of God, and our spirit uses it to release revelation to our conscious mind. As we read the Word, we can use our sanctified imagination to picture ourselves in the scene and to see what is happening.

We can focus on the veil that separated the holy place from the Most Holy place, which was torn in two when Jesus died on the cross to give us access (Mark 15:37–38). Exodus 26:31–35 describes the veil as woven of blue, purple, and scarlet thread and fine woven linen with an artistic design of cherubim.

In his course Unlock Your Spiritual Sight, Greg Kurjata encourages us to picture ourselves walking through this veil into the Holy of Holies. We take a step forward through the veil by faith, telling our minds we are there, believing we receive according to Mark 11:24. We are in the heavenly place via the body and blood of Jesus, as we read in Hebrews 10:19–22.

So then, pay attention to what you see, sense, feel, and know. Be aware of the glory of the Lord and receive the glory into your spirit, soul, and body by faith while you are in the heavenly realm. Then, when you step back through the veil onto the earthly realm, you can release God’s glory into the atmosphere around you and the life of your family, friends, etc.

The Holy Spirit uses pictures, visions, and dreams to pass ideas from His mind to ours. We see in the spirit right now, but our brain may recognize this data as irrelevant because it lacks a grid. That is why we need to tell our brains we are present in the Courts of Heaven to train our brains to see in the spirit. Some see by knowing, others by sensing or feeling, and some by sight.

We don’t need to use our imagination in the heavenly realms because we can observe what is happening in the Courts of Heaven.

However, even if you don’t see anything while you are in the Courts of Heaven, believe that you are present in the court by faith!

When we pay attention to what God presents to us, this becomes a doorway for us to step into the heavenly realms (Mark 9:2–4 – the transfiguration of Jesus; Revelation 4:1). When the Lord asks you, “What do you see “? He is trying to activate your spiritual vision (Jeremiah 1:11). He asks you a question He knows the answer to, but He wants you to hone in and focus. Remember, Daniel looked and kept looking and watching (Daniel 7:2–13).

Seeing in the supernatural realm

I want to make a point about safely seeing in the supernatural realm outside the Courts of Heaven and the heavenly realm where God rules and reigns. Ask this question if you see a celestial being: “Did Jesus Christ, the Son of God, come in the flesh?” We must apply this test to avoid being deceived or misled into the occult’s darkness. Even Satan can transform himself into an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). The enemy has a counterfeit that mediums, sorcerers, witches, etc., use. However, with this test, anything demonic will leave, and an angel of God will preach the gospel until we are satisfied (1 John 4:2–3)! We do not have to be afraid.

We do not have to be concerned with being deceived in the Courts of Heaven because God rules and reigns there according to His governmental system.

The written Word of God must be the foundation for what we see and encounter in the spirit realm to avoid error and deceptive spirits operating in and through us. The Word is Truth, and moving in Spirit and truth will keep us balanced in moving in the things of the Lord. So, Lord, open our eyes to see the supernatural, not just the natural (2 Kings 6:15-17)!

Coming to Mount Zion

The following verses gives us a description of the spiritual realm where God is, and we are allowed to come to:

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, to an innumerable company of angels, to the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect, to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel. Hebrews 12:22–24

Mount Zion is the place of His Presence where the Courts of Heaven operate and is a governmental, spiritual dimension. God executes His judgment from here, and what we do through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit allows the Lord to bring heaven into earth.

Next, we see we have come to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, which is the bride of Christ (Revelation 21:9–10).

Next, we see an innumerable company of angels. Angels play a large part in the legal realm of the Spirit whether we see them or not. The term angel means a messenger. Throughout Scripture, we see they have many functions, and we know, according to Hebrews 1:13–14, that they are ministering spirits to minister to those who inherit salvation. That’s us!

Angels cannot be redeemed because Jesus came as a man to save humankind. So those angels that fell with Satan cannot be redeemed but will receive God’s judgment.

Angels excel in strength, heed the voice of the Lord and carry it out, do His pleasure, and are ministers of fire (Psalm 103:20–21; 104:4).

In his book Operating in the Courts of Heaven, Robert Henderson refers to the general assembly as the worshipers upon the sea of glass in heaven, as revealed in Revelation 15:2–4.

The church of the firstborn registered in heaven comprises those whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Therefore, when we bring a case to heaven’s courts, we are recognized and registered, giving us rights and privileges to stand before the courts because our names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life,

Next, we see we come to God, the Judge of all. In Daniel 7:9–10, the One ruling from His throne is the Ancient of Days. We are to honor, respect, and reverence Him as we present ourselves before His courts (Revelation 22:13). But because we are His sons and daughters, we have God’s favor as His elect (Luke 18:6–8).

The spirit of just men made perfect refers to the great cloud of witnesses in Hebrews 11 and 12:1–2. They can give judicial testimony. These are those who have already died and passed into heaven, having lived a life of faith, and obtained a good testimony because they lay down their lives to fulfill God’s will.

We have also come to Jesus as the Mediator of the new covenant according to Hebrews 12:24. A mediator is a go-between who intercedes and reconciles. His intercession and mediation allow us to access and possess everything His death and the new covenant provided (Hebrews 7:25).

Jesus accomplished legal things through His finished work on the cross and operates from a legal place for us today as our Advocate and Intercessor (1 John 2:1–2). God the Father chose Jesus as our High Priest operating in the heavens for us (Hebrews 5:4–6).

Jesus is not the only one speaking on our behalf in heaven. The blood of Christ is also speaking on our behalf, i.e., the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel (Genesis 4:9–12). The blood of Jesus speaks better things than that of Abel because Jesus was the Passover Lamb, as seen in the Old Testament types of atonement with the yearly sacrifice of animals for sin and healing. Atonement means to cover over or cover up.

However, the sacrifice of Jesus did more than that. His shed blood brought the remission of sins (Matthew 26:28). His blood blotted out our sins and removed and destroyed any note against us (Colossians 2:14). Finally, Jesus died once and for all time (1 Peter 3:18; Hebrews 9:12, 26‒28)!

So, Christ’s blood doesn’t just cover our sins but removes them and gives us victory. It is essential to know how to agree with the blood in the courts so that we can silence the voices that are speaking against us (Isaiah 54:17). It speaks that we are innocent of all charges and that the adversary has no legal right to oppose or hinder our victory (Revelation 12:11).

Doug Addison mentions that the Throne of Grace and the Court of Petitions are linked to the Mount Zion court and states it will be where most of our interactions take place.

God hears our petitions and answers us according to His governmental system, His Word and promises, and what Jesus provided by His shed blood and finished work on the cross. Before God as Judge, we can see all legal rights the adversary has against us removed because of Jesus and His blood speaking for us (Hebrews 12:24).

In his book Accessing the Courts of Heaven, Robert Henderson mentions there are three keys to apply to answer the case against us.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.” Revelation 12:11

1) The blood of Jesus speaks for us (Hebrews 12:24). It is the blood that gives God the legal right to forgive our sins (1 John 1:9). The blood atones for our soul (Leviticus 17:11). Very often, the wounds in our soul allows demonic serpents to attack us.

The blood of Jesus testifies in the Courts of Heaven against the accusations of Satan. There isn’t one accusation the devil can bring that the blood of Jesus can’t answer. But we must accept and agree with the testimony of the blood. God’s faithfulness speaks to His covenant-keeping nature and being just to His legal nature (1 John 1:9). Jesus’ blood brings salvation, forgiveness, healing, deliverance, provision, protection, etc. So we must agree with the blood.

2) Our testimony must agree with what God and our books in heaven say. Also, our tithes, offerings, and sharing of our financial resources testify in the Courts of Heaven (Matthew 5:23–26; Acts 10:1–4).

3) Laying down and surrendering our lives to the Lord, His purpose and will, bring authority and influence in the Courts of Heaven. Therefore, we should pray, Lord, I surrender my life to You. Your will be done.

The Lord needs us to partner with Him to bring His Kingdom and Heaven to Earth.

Lord, may we partner with You and be empowered to stand before You and present cases in the Courts of Heaven!
